YEAR OF CONSECRATE LIFE 2015

CALLED AND SENT: UNIVERSAL MISSION

AS FRANCISCAN MISSIONARIES OF MARY

Being fmm roots itself in both God’s call to Hélène de Chappotin and in
the historical, cultural experiences of
each woman called. Retracing the
experiences of Hélène’s life, we identify already in her childhood: creativity,

fierce capacity to love, attraction to the Poor, deep devotion to the Eucharist
and Mary, and the capacity to be surprised by God. This latter led to
powerful experiences in which she recognized God’s invitation to herself,

and eventually, to all who would be called to follow the fmm life: to offer
one’s life for the Church and the salvation of the world. Her yes, and
now ours,
has woven itself throughout life, always inviting us to enter
more
fully into the Mystery of God alive in God’s People, especially the Poor.

CALLED AND SENT : UNIVERSAL MISSION
AS FRANCISCAN MISSIONARIES OF MARY
We are constantly called to new inculturations of
the fmm charism which require that we live it
energetically as well as reinterpret it culturally in
the context of our many cultures. Being a
Franciscan Missionary of Mary roots itself again
and again in  both God’s call to Hélène de
Chappotin  and the historical, cultural experiences
of each woman called to this way of life.
We identify the following characteristics of
Hélène’s childhood: creativity, a fierce capacity
to love, an attraction to the Poor, deep devotion
to the Eucharist and Mary, and her capacity to be
surprised by God. The latter led to powerful
experiences in which she recognized God’s
invitation to her, and eventually, to all who are
called through the gift of the FMM charism, to
offer one’s life for the Church and the salvation of
                            the world.
Her  yes,  and ours, weaves itself throughout life,
always inviting us to enter more fully into the
Mystery of God alive in God’s People, especially
the Poor. For Hélène this offering led through
sufferings that brought her to the brink of
survival, and to challenges that bore fruits of joy.
Today, the gift of  unconditional yes,  is part of
every fmm’s life. The words of Pope Francis,
Wake up the World, challenge our understanding
of how we live this total offering, this
unconditional  yes, for God’s People, the Church.
